Finding Your Way Around Paris, France

I know you’re hungry, but before we get to the food, I want you to understand the layout of the city. Paris is made up of 20 smaller neighborhoods called arrondissements. Each of the arrondissements, or neighborhoods, is numbered and has its own unique characteristics. Towards the center of the circle is where most of the common tourist attractions are

Travel Tip: You can easily figure out where something is located if you have the address. The last number in the zip code corresponds with the arrondissement where it’s located.

Restaurants in Paris, France: Within the 4th Arrondissement

During my first time in Paris, I stayed on the Ile Saint Louis. Ile Saint Louis is a cute little island in the 4th arrondissement. It’s one of my favorite spots because it’s such a great location. You will find popular tourist attractions like the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Pompidou Center, and Seine River tours in this area. (Read more about how “Eiffel in love with Travel” on that very first visit.)

Many of the best restaurants in Paris are located there. It’s honestly a PERFECT place to stay in Paris because it is so quaint and the location is ideal for getting around! Here are some of my favorite Paris restaurants in the heart of Paris, France….

Nos Ancetres Les Gaulois

Nos Ancetres Les Gaulois is ranked #5,502 out of #15,768 Restaurants in Paris on TripAdvisor. It is located at 39 rue Saint Louis en L Ile, 75004 Paris France. They are open daily from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm for lunch and from 7:00 pm – 1:00 am for dinner. Make sure you pay attention to your timing so you don’t go when they are closed between services. (Been there, done that… oops.)

I go to Nos Ancestres Les Gaulois EVERY time I visit Paris. It’s a fun-themed novelty restaurant! You can expect to have a big basket of raw seasonal vegetables on each table and a really good time.

The inside has a cave-like atmosphere without any glass windows. The waitstaff is dressed up and they typically have someone going from one table to the next singing and playing music. It’s just so much fun for everyone!

Something that makes this one of the coolest restaurants in Paris is the unlimited cheese and wine… yes I said UNLIMITED WINE! You go to the big barrel, fill your pitcher, then bring it to your table. You can go back for refills as much as you would like. Keep in mind it’s just one type of French red wine, but it’s FUN and delicious! This is definitely the best casual restaurant in Paris, France

Le Caveau de L'Isle

Le Caveau de L’Isle is ranked #1,555 out of #15,768 restaurants in Paris.  It is located at 36 rue Saint Louis en L Ile, 75004 Paris France. They are open daily from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm for lunch and from 6:00 pm to 12:00 am for dinner.

The food at Le Caveau de L’Isle is consistently great, and the owner and staff are very nice. Sometimes it’s hard to find vegetarian options in Paris, but they have several on the menu here.

When I was there I tried the frog’s legs, because why not?! If you haven’t tried frog’s legs before… yes, they taste like chicken. You should try them, and escargot, when you’re in Paris. It’s all part of the experience.

La Favorite

La Favorite is ranked #12,510 out of #15,768 restaurants in Paris. It is located at 4 rue de Rivoli 75004 Paris France. They are open daily from 8:00 am until 2:00 am. That means you don’t have to worry about missing an opportunity to eat at this popular place in Paris when you go there for a little #instagram photo opportunity!

It’s not hard to see why this restaurant entrance is a great spot for a remarkable photo on the main streets of Paris. We had a delicious lunch at this classic French bistro while we were on a self-guided food tour.

Even if you don’t have time for a quick bite, it’s still a great place to stop by for a quick selfie. All the cool kids are doing it because the exterior is one of the most beautiful restaurants in Paris right now.

Le TresOr

Le TresOr is ranked #1,934 out of #15,768 restaurants in Paris. It is located at 9 rue du Tresor Le Marais, 75004 Paris France. They are open Sunday through Thursday from 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm and Friday and Saturday from 12:00 pm to 12:00 am

This restaurant received the 2021 Travelers Choice Award. When I visited Le TresOr the food was delicious. We even tried the traditional french cuisine, foie gras. They have an English menu (if you need it) and they offer both inside and outside seating in the warmer months.

Serving contemporary French cooking, their specialties are fried egg, sausage, and aligot. Le TresOr has consistently good French food and good service. If you have the opportunity to visit for brunch, you won’t be disappointed!

Le St Regis

Le St Regis is ranked #1,030 out of #15,768 restaurants in Paris. It is located at 6 rue Jean du Bellay, 75004 Paris France. They are open daily from 7:00 am to 2:00 am. This restaurant received the 2021 Travelers Choice Award. Their reasonable prices and traditional dishes make it the best restaurant in Paris to get breakfast, but their lunch menu is pretty awesome too!

This was one of my FAVORITE restaurants in Paris, France. We ate there multiple times. They have an English menu, which is helpful, DELICIOUS food, and incredibly friendly waitstaff. Seriously, the first time I ate at St. Regis was in 2013, and I’ve thought about it ever since. If you like casual restaurants with French comfort food, then you will love Le St Regis. I RECOMMEND it 10/10!

Restaurants in Paris, France: Tastings and Tours

O Chateau

O Chateau is ranked #820 out of #15,768 restaurants in Paris on TripAdvisor. It is located at 68 rue Jean Jacques Rousseau 75001, Paris France. This is actually in the 1st arrondissement, but it’s not far from the 4th. They are open Monday through Saturday from 4:00 pm to 12:00 am.

Aside from dinner, O Chateau offers wine and cheese tastings. This was one of my FAVORITE things to do in Paris. It’s so nice, I did it TWICE!

Wine and Cheese Tasting at Paris Restaurant

You can simply enjoy a glass of wine at the wine bar, or you can have dinner in the elegant dining room. I think a wine tasting is the first thing you should do when you get to Paris because then you can be prepared with what to order from the wine list at every restaurant. That’s how I found my favorite French red wine!

If you are looking for a memorable and romantic dinner then THIS is the place to go. It’s not difficult to find some of the most romantic restaurants in Paris, but O Chateau is an experience!

Get Your Guide has a really cool tour option for O Chateau. It’s a two-hour-long food and wine pairing. This dinner, with a customized wine selection, is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience during your visit to Paris, France!

I have done these pairings before and they are AWESOME. Check out TripAdvisor’s beautiful pictures and reviews to see more about why it’s ranked #33 out of #406 food and drink tours in Paris.

Walking Food Tour

I’ve tried a few different food tours in Paris. In my post, “1 Thing you Must do Every Time you Travel” I talked about doing all different types of tours.

Food tours are so much fun to experience when you go to a new country. It’s a perfect opportunity to have a local show you the best places to eat, and it’s the best way to try small plates of different foods.  I had the best hot chocolate of my LIFE on a food tour in Paris!

The Marais Walking Food Tour is a perfect way to sample Paris. In 3+ hours you will walk around Paris to taste cheese, wine, chocolates, pastries and stop at a restaurant. There are 8-10 stops on the food tour. I PROMISE you that this will be an amazing experience you will ALWAYS remember.
